As American as Blue Cupcakes

We joined our friends/neighbors again this year on the fourth of July for a little cookout in their backyard. It was a cloudy/sunny day, the sun would go behind the clouds and you would think, "Here comes the rain..." and then it would come back out and be beautiful again. Jack and his "best friend" Ava hung out in the backyard and played in the dirt and had a great time. But their favorite was putting sprinkles on the cupcakes and then eating as many as they could get away with. They also thought it was hilarious to paint their faces with the frosting.

Later, the rain really did come, but did that stop us from going out to see the fireworks? Unfortunately, it did not. We decided to go to our local private beach down the road, Parson's. We wouldn't get stuck in traffic, with each of us having babies and 2 1/2 & 3 year olds in the car and no matter what we'd only be a minute's drive from home. Jack and Ava waited it out in the stroller eating "orange crackers" (of course).

I kept saying to Anna, "You're a trooper already!" Because she was just hanging out in the pouch and smiling. Even through the rain.

Happy Fourth of July!
And can I just say, I LOVE the way Jack's left eye closes when he smiles this big.
